Driver Education Program

Driving an automobile safely and responsibly is one of the
most important skills you will learn in a lifetime.

This course consists of the State required 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel. The classroom prepares the student for the written permit test.  Upon completion of the classroom and obtaining a driver's permit, the student is responsible for contacting the Community Education office affiliated with the school where the classroom portion was taken.  An instructor will contact the student in 3-4 weeks to schedule the Behind-the-Wheel lessons.

Each student will receive 6 hours of instruction in either 1 1/2 or 2 hour increments.  The student will begin the lesson either from their school or from their home and end the lesson at their home. (Students who live outside the Saint Paul city limits need to make arrangements to meet the instructor inside the city limits.)

Students are required to have their permit for at least six months and be 16 years-of-age before they are eligible to take the road test for their driver's license.  After successful completion of classroom instruction, the student has 18 months to finish the Behind-the-Wheel portion of the program.  A refund minus a forty-dollar ($40) fee will be issued upon request for cancellation from the program.  Refunds will not be issued after one year from the beginning date of the classroom instruction.
